Getting the Ponies Moved in Went Like a Breeze!

Dear Friends of WHR...Season's Greetings!

We are now settled in here at the WHR Southwest Outpost once again, just in time for the holidays and to celebrate Christmas in the desert. We can now be reached at 520-826-0188. Not near the tumbleweeds this year, so getting the ponies moved in went like a breeze!

So far we have had a couple inches of rain, snow in the surrounding desert mountains, and we're waiting for the sun to come out!?!?  Actually, it is a blessing to see the moisture on the desert. The sunshine is on its way, with sunsets and stars like nowhere else!

On the way down, we had a nice visit with a new horse client in Wickenburg. It's a beautiful part of Arizona and full of old west history like our Cochise area.  Now that the holidays are here and the January issue of Cowboys & Indians is out with an article on us, our phone has kept us hopping! The Arizona schedule is filling up--our January month-long Student Training Program is booked, but February and March are still available. The registration dates are fast approaching for the Foundation to Finished Bridle Horsemanship, Reined Cow Working, Trail Training, and the Ladies & Cowgirl Only classes, so get your deposits in ASAP! We also offer flexible scheduling for Private Clinics, so don't hesitate to inquire with Beverly.

Mighty Mouse

We are thrilled with the fine string of geldings we are currently offering. We also have a couple more new arrivals to watch for, former WHR geldings sold four years ago: Hank, an older seasoned buckskin, and Mighty Mouse, a little bay 10-year cow horse by Docs Hickory! Both are fine individuals and we are pleased to be able to offer and place these super geldings again. They are all like our kids, and we never forget a one! Check out our Geldings for Sale and watch for the two new ones, along with "Tex", our other new black gelding who is built like a tank!

Our former assistant Grant Lindaman Jr. stayed with us again at the Oregon ranch this fall, after showing his bridle horse in Reno at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity. He helped out while he got to work his horses on our cattle before we sold them in late November. Grant has recently moved back to the Scottsdale, Arizona area for the winter to prepare his reined cow horses for the 2012 show season. We continue to influence Grant as mentors, and wish him much success as he begins showing in the Non-Pro division. Grant also plans to always have a couple of nice, well bred, young show prospects available.  Last summer, he sold his filly that he trained to show in the 2011 NRCHA Futurity to NRCHA & NCHA World Champion, Boyd Rice.

New Family Member in Training!

Beverly & Katie Dog

Beverly has finally gotten a new dog, "Katie Cow Dog"! Katie is ¾ Blue Heeler & ¼ Corgi. Acquired at six weeks old in mid-October, she is now a bundle of energy and in full WHR obedience training!

We like our horses mannerly and we are just as picky and disciplined with the new puppy. So on your next visit to the Outpost, you may be asked to assist in the training and help us make a good obedient, loyal, one-person dog out of her. The WHR Rules consist of: booting her away if she comes running up to wiggle and jump on you; no petting her; no calling her; and no playing with her. Sounds kind of firm now, but it will payback ten-fold in the future. Then the rules can be slackened when she becomes an adult and knows her place in life and on whom her attention should be...Beverly.  Just like starting a horse right with control, trust & consistency!  You may all remember "Cheetah", whom we lost in Dec 2006. She was a great dog and an asset to the WHR, and we plan to give "Katie Dog" that same opportunity with your help. It takes others to help train your dog! We have been well overdue for a dog on the ranch and are thrilled to have her...at least Beverly is!

As we all gather our families and think of loved ones and dear friends this Christmas, may we remember the Reason for the Season, rejoicing in the blessings, hope, and peace  Jesus continues to bestow on us all.

Y'all come to southern Arizona & ride with us in the sunshine-- Where tumbleweeds roll & our bridle horses leave hoof prints in the trail dust!
